snowbaby and snowflakes...

Hello my fabulous friends!

I'm am excited to be guest designing for Hedgehog Hollow using the October 2019 box! This month's box is a special one for me, because my friend Tammy designed the stamps and dies! The box includes a super fun and easy interactive die, but today I wanted to paint a simple and soft card using the adorable snowman stamps....

Paper: Strathmore Bristol Smooth; Neenah Desert Storm

Ink: Inkon3 Fadeout; Dr Ph Martin's Bleed Proof White; Memento Tuxedo Black
Coloring: Zig Clean Color Real Brush; Copics
Snow- 904
Orange- 070, 060
White- 901
Pink- 069, 230
Black- 902
Green- 901, 046
Brown- 068
Background- Copic BG72, BG75, B52
Stencil: Hedgehog Hollow Snowflake layering stencil (Oct. 2019 box)
Other: rhinestones

Let's take a look at how to create this sweet card-

I started by stamping the smaller snowman on some Bristol Smooth paper using Inkon3 Fadeout ink. This is a super light ink designed for no-line coloring.

I then watercolored this cutie using Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers.

Next, I needed a mask... You can use the more traditional masking paper or post-it notes to create a mask, however, I have found that when I color using the no-line method, I don't always follow the lines exactly. This means that a mask made from the stamp might not line up perfectly for what I've colored... So I like to use contact paper. I gently apply the contact paper over the image, then lightly cut around the image with a sharp craft knife... you want just enough pressure to cut the plastic film, but not scratch your actual project.

Next, I tore some masking tape in half length wise stuck both halves on my project to create a torn banner going through the snowman... I also covered the rest of the panel with some scrap paper to avoid getting ink anywhere I didn't want it.

Using my Copic Air Brush, and a couple Copic markers, I added a light layer of color in the exposed strip.

Next, I placed the snowflake stencil over the area, and went over that with a slightly darker color.

(Cleaning the stencil is easy with a little rubbing alcohol or hand sanitizer)

I then carefully removed all the tape and the mask... I love this part.. It's like magic!

This kit also comes with a set of sentiments... So I chose one of the sentiments and stamped that in.

In keeping with the softer color palette, I mounted the stamped panel onto some Neenah Desert Storm cardstock, then onto a white card base...

(in case you are wondering... I like to use white card bases instead of colored ones, because I like to fill up the inside of the card with writing... leaving it all white inside means I can write a lot more, and it will be easy to read)

To finish it off, I added in some tiny crystals... they add that little touch of sparkle and elegance.

What is your favorite kind of card... traditional, or interactive?

See you soon!

  1. He is just the SWEETEST snow baby ever! He just seemlessly blends into the blue ribbon of color and yet still pops right out to make you swoon! I couldn’t be more proud as an illustrator looking at how gorgeous you’ve made him look Kari! Thank you so much!
