I'm in the mood for flowers.. (featuring Spellbinders)

Hello my fabulous friends, and welcome to all new guests!

I'm excited to be sharing some fun projects featuring the new flowers from the Spellbinders Through the Garden Gate Collection!  I have been daydreaming of being able to walk out into the garden and see flowers everywhere... I'm beyond ready for the constant rain to give way to sunshine, and for it to really feel like spring. I can't control the weather, so I'll just have to fill my studio with flowers while I wait!

Projects were made for Spellbinders. They provided some of the product, but my opinions are my own.

When I looked up photos of hollyhocks to see what colors they come in, I found a spectrum of warm colors...pinks, reds, oranges, and yellows, but I fell in love with a delicately soft peachy pink one, and I knew that's what I wanted to recreate with this die.

To get the soft peach color, I used my Copic airbrush. I found the easiest way to color the flowers is to place some Washi tape (sticky side up) on a protected surface, and tape the ends down. You then have a tacky surface to stick the flower pieces to while you airbrush. I can do multiple projects worth of spraying before too much of the tape is covered in ink and it needs to be replaced.

To finish theses soft hollyhocks, I added just a touch of pink Distress ink around the edges of the petals, then used Susan's Garden Tool Kit to shape the flowers. I finished them off with just a touch of Perfect Pearl mist to give then a subtle shimmer.

My next card features the Beeblossom die. To be honest, I hadn't heard of bee blossoms before, so I had to look them up too. They are really pretty flowers, ranging from white to dark magenta. Apparently they grow in my area and are deer and rabbit resistant... I think I'll have to plant some!

I picked up some yellow pollen dust for these flowers. This stuff is new to me, but after one use, I love it! It has the perfect texture for the stamen! After a little experimentation, I found that using fabric clips was a great way to hold the small pieces while I dipped them in the glue and pollen dust, then I could stand them up to dry.

I die cut the flowers and leaves from watercolor paper, which made coloring the flowers super quick and easy! Just add a little watercolor and it's done! It also gives it that organic look where no two flowers are exactly alike.

I like to make little gifts for people to brighten their day. I was working on putting together some treats to send out, and I wanted to decorate this cute little jar. The gardena flower was the perfect size to make the jar look fancy!

I kept the coloring very soft and delicate, with just a hint of pink Distress Ink around the edges of the petals.  I also misted the flower with some Perfect Pearl mist to give it that pretty sparkle. It's really hard to photograph, but I love the little extra touch it has in real life!

I finished it off with a quick oval tag using one of the sentiments from Through the Garden Gate Sentiments stamp set. I love the mix of fonts in the sentiment. It gives it a fancy, yet playful look that I love!
