smile- bird selfie

Hello my fabulous friends!

I've never mastered the art of selfies... I always feel awkward and self-conscious...  I'm not exactly sure why...  maybe it has something to do with spending all my time behind the camera that it feels strange being in front of it... I don't know.

These two birds, on the other hand, look right at home in front of the selfie camera! Aren't they fun?!?  This digi stamp is part of the January release for Whimsy Stamps... you can check out the full digital release HERE.

I colored these cuties in with Copics, then I used contact paper to create a custom mask to do some airbrushing for the sky. 

If you have never used contact paper as a mask before,  here's the general idea...

Cover your image with contact paper. Cut around your image using a craft knife (only push hard enough to cut through the plastic, not your paper!).  Then peel the outside part off, leaving your image covered... When you are done with your background, you can remove the mask on your image. 

This is an easy way to create a custom mask for your digital images!

I wanted the image to be framed in such a way that it looked kind of like a polaroid, and I wanted to include the word "smile" in the open space at the bottom... This was really quick to do on my Scan 'n' Cut... I don't do a lot of die cutting with this machine. I mostly use it to cut out stamps that don't have coordinating dies, but occasionally it allows me to create a custom die cut to fit my idea. 

I finished it off with my old fashioned label maker... I love the look of the embossed plastic banner!
