cracks...

Hello my wonderful creative friends!

Hows about we play with a little something Ranger came out with a while back called
 Rock Candy Crackle Paint?

I love that stuff!  I don't use it nearly enough! Every time I dig it back out, I fall in love all over again!

So... what exactly is it?

Well, it is a clear one step crackle paint.

So... what exactly do you do with it?

well... here's one way to use it. :)

First off... because it is a wet medium, I either use a heavier base , or attach my paper to a heaver base. In this case, I used Glossy Accents to glue my paper onto Grunge Paper. Grunge  Paper (despite the word "paper" in it's name is VERY durable and withstands wet medium like a champ!)

Rock Candy Crackle Paint is not like ordinary paint. You don't want to brush on a thin layer. It just won't work. It is more like icing a cake. I use a palette knife, but you could also use a paint brush... just make sure you have a nice thick layer.

The thicker it is, the bigger the cracks.

Ok... I tried to show how thick it is spread, but it didn't really work... it does show, however, that you don't have to have a perfect layer. In fact, missing areas, or having varying thicknesses adds a lot of interest!

Now, as hard as it is, set it aside to dry. Don't heat it!!! It works a lot better if you just let it sit!

Look at all those fabulous cracks! You cans see all the different sizes.. those are caused by the different thicknesses in the paint. The tiny cracks are where the paint was spread a little thinner.

For a little color, and to help accentuate the crackles, I spritzed on some spray ink. It seeps into the cracks. Lovely!

And, onto the card!

I love the texture this paint gives. I also love that it is clear, so you can see what is underneath it! So many fun things you can do with this!

Enjoy!

  1. Hi Kassi, I also used this product and learned the hard way that it is not good on card stock alone. I should have waited til I read this post!

    The heart looks wonderful!
