gift card pocket featuring Spellbinders

 Hello my fabulous friends!

Today I'm here showcasing another new Spellbinders die... This one is called Bless Your Heart Vignette created by Becca Feeken. This is another beautiful die they sent me to create with, but like I said last week, I have owned, used, and enjoyed Spellbinders products for years, and my opinions remain my own.

Because dies are an investment, I like to look at die sets and see how many different ways I can come up with to use them, or stretch them.. the more versatility, the more likely I am to reach for that die over and over again, which makes me happy! After all, dies are made to be used, not gather dust!

So let's take a look at one way to stretch Bless Your Heart Vignette by turning it into a pocket for a gift card!

Paper: Neenah Classic Crest Solar White; Polkadoodles Butterfly Daisy

Dies: Spellbinders Bless Your Heart Vignette

Hot Plates: Spellbinders Modern Lines, Diamond Floral Frame, Mini Everyday Sentiments

Foil: Spellbinders Opal, Copper

Color: Arteza Real Brush markers

I started by die cutting the two largest dies in the Bless Your Heart Vignette set. One is an outline, the other is the internal swirls.

I then cut the die cut in two. Both ends of this design are slightly different, you can choose which end you want to be your pocket.

For a little subtle design, I decided to foil the pocket using the Modern Lines hot plate and Opal foil. The Opal foil is clear but gives beautiful rainbow colors when it catches the light. Because it's clear, it can be hard to keep track of which side is the front of the foil and which is the back. So when I cut a piece off of the roll, I mark the back with a B using a sharpie.

I used the inner line die to create the tag that doubles as a gift card holder.  I die cut two pieces and adhered them together with a strips of 1/8 inch tape just along the two sides and top. The gift card fits absolutely perfectly in it, with enough sticking out of the bottom to make it easy to pull out the gift card.

(This inner line die is my favorite from this set just for this reason! I make so many cards that contain gift cards, this die will get some good use!)

I die cut the "Bless Your Heart" piece from 3 pieces of thick cardstock, then glued them together. I then used the Spellbinders Glimmer Hot Foil System to add some foiling to the die cut.

To do this, I let the machine warm up, then I place a sheet of thin paper on the machine (just to protect it from over foiling, then my die cut stack, then the foil (pretty side up). I hit the timer button and let it heat up. When the timer light stops flashing, I add both the plastic plates, and a couple sheets of cardstock for shims and run it through my die cut machine.

You may need to adjust the number of shims you use, as each machine is different. You do need to use stacked die cuts though. I haven't gotten it to work with a single layer die cut. It needs the extra thickness to really press into the foil.

I chose Copper foil since it matched the patterned paper well, but it still stands out against the busy paper.

Before assembling, I added a foiled sentiment to the top left and bottom right of the patterned paper using more Copper foil using Mini Everyday Sentiments hot plate.

I also foiled and die cut a bunch of flowers and leaves to cluster around the pocket using the Diamond Floral Frame hot plate/die set. I used some watercolor markers to add some super quick color to the leaves and flowers. I didn't do anything fancy, just brushed on some color to match the loose sketchy brush strokes in my patterned paper.

Some of the flowers and leaves were glued flat to the card front or pocket, while others I used some foam dots. This gives a nice variety in dimension.

I layered some patterned paper behind my pocket, then adhered it to my card front using foam tape just long the sides and bottom. This makes it nice and easy to slip the gift card in and out.

You can see in this photo just how beautiful the Opal foil is!!! I love the soft rainbow!

I love how this card turned out! And I'm already thinking about how to switch things up a bit to create a birthday themed gift card pocket...

This set is going to be fun to continue playing with!

I hope this helps inspire you to look at your dies with creativity, and see more potential in them!
