have a perfect birthday...

Hello my fabulous friends!

It's time once again for me to be making birthday cards for my family, and some of the new stamps and dies from La-La Land Crafts are ABSOLUTELY PERFECT!  :)

When I make birthday cards, I try really hard to make them fit the person.. It affects what stamps I use, and what colors I use... I hope that the lovely person this is heading to likes it!

Paper: Neenah Classic Crest Solar White; DCWV Metallics
Ink: Altenew Permanent Black; Uniball Signo White
Coloring: Copic
Skin- E30. E31, E33, RV42, E04
Hair- E53, E57, E47, E49
Blue- E81, B91, B93, B95, B97, B99
Green- YG91, YG93, YG95, YG97, YG99
Pink- R81, R83, R85, R89
White- W0, W2, W4
Black- W5, W7, W9

Honestly, I chose this stamp for the hat... I could just see it looking fabulous in this distressed green color (my attempts at recreating the exact green that has been declared this person's favorite color).  To keep the colors harmonious, I added a bit of grunge to the jeans, and went with a warm white and dull pink... What really made all the difference was when I added the flowers to her shirt.. Suddenly it went from being so-so to having a fun, and vintage.

For my background, I airbrushed a couple of the lightest blues and greens to fill the panel. I wanted to give the illusion of sky and ground without any harsh lines or defining shapes.

The large clouds are cut off from a larger die cut.. I trimmed off the rainbow and the hanging hearts... Not that they aren't cute, they just didn't fit the overall look I was going for.. However, the clouds work great on their own! Don't be afraid to use your dies in ways other than the obvious!

I die cut the balloon out of Metallic paper, so it is shiny and pretty.

The little clouds are again cut off of a larger die.. in this case the Cloud Border.

Finally, I stamped the sentiment on paper strips and trimmed to size. To help them stand out more, I ran the chisel tip of my Copic around the edge of the tiles. You need to move in a very smooth motion, or you get uneven wicking onto the front. It's a quick way to add a thin, yet effective border!

Do you make birthday cards? Do you customize them for each person,  or do you make batches of more generalized birthday cards? Let me know in the comments!

See you soon!

  1. I absolutely live the card you created. I, too, customise cards thinking of the person I’m giving it to. Because of this I tend to procrastinate and take too long in the creative process and then don’t make very many cards because of lack of time.
