British bird challenge...

Hello my fabulous friends!

For years now, my mom and I have had a little game going... When she runs across craft/art supplies in a store that she either thinks is weird, or that she likes but knows it isn't what I would typically gravitate to, she buys it, then hands it to me and challenges me to make something...

It started out as almost a joke, but it is fun, and it has helped me break out of ruts, and it  helped me gain the confidence in my own work with products or images that might outside of my comfort zone, which helps me today in my design team work. So we kept playing.

She hasn't done anything like that in a couple years since she has been sick... but recently she was feeling up to a quick visit to a craft store for fabric, and she came home with the Jan 2019 Simply Cards & Papercraft magazine (with a large set of bird stamps included as the free gift).

So I set about making a card with the stamp set she chose...

Paper: Neenah Classic Crest Solar White
Stamps: RSPB British Garden Birds
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black; Uniball Signo White; Distress Ink Salty Ocean
Coloring: Copic
Branch- E55, E57, E59
Leaves- YG01, YG95, YG97
White- W00, W1, W3, W5
Blue- B21, B23, B45, B37
Yellow- Y11, Y15, Y18
Gray- T3, T6
Red- E35, E07, E18

I admit, I'm  a bit intimidated at times by the more realistic animal stamps... I get too caught up in my own head about making the coloring realistic... When I just relax and color, I'm fine, but sometimes I just start overthinking... which leads to frustration...

Any one else do that?

I have to remind myself to breathe, and relax... it's just paper, and if I mess up but learn something in the process, than the paper and time wasn't wasted.

When I finished coloring it, I wasn't happy... I was debating throwing it away and starting over, but I decided to set it aside and come back to it another day with fresh eyes... I decided it needed a bit of back ground to it to help ground and unify it, so I did a little masking and used an ink blending tool to add in some blue. It made a huge difference!

See you soon!
