When I first started this card, I knew what I wanted... the baby inside the nest, and the mama outside the nest, surrounded by vines.. I thought about how to accomplish that with masking, and although it's possible, it's more complex.. so I decide against masking today
(GASP!!)
LOL!

Let's take a look at how I made this card..

To start, I die cut the oval from Petalette from white cardstock. I then stamped the nest in Coffee Bean ink and added just a bit of simple coloring with Copics. (honestly, I scribbled a couple browns in swirling scribbles in the nest...)

Next I stamped the Mama and baby bird using Raven ink.
More simple coloring with Copics, then I cut them out.

To have the baby tucked inside the nest, while the mama is on top of the nest, I used a craft knife to cut a slit  along the inside of the nest (where the front rim of the nest is)

You can then slide just the baby part way into the slit. Now the baby is nestled snuggly in the nest while the mama snuggles it from the edge.

Side note-- I have seen birds do this! I watched a humming bird nest (from eggs to flight) in my yard last year. When the babies were big enough that the mama couldn't fit in the nest, she perched on the sides, and the babies would snuggle against her just like this!

To give the nest something to rest on, I used some Olive Branch ink to stamp a bunch of leaves around the bottom of the nest. I also used some Pink Tutu ink for the heart.

Side Note- In case you noticed, yes, the birds just changed colors... It's the same birds, but as I was thinking about which papers I would use, I decided I wanted the blue in my birds to match the blue in the paper, so I gave them a light wash of a light blue-green color to push the birds more towards the teal side.

To put the card together, I cut a front panel for my card using the butterfly paper, I then
die cut the Petalette background die from white card stock, and cut out the oval in the center. I then added foam tape to the back of the piece for some dimension, and adhered it to my card front. The oval with my birds was glued flat to the card so it's inside the frame.

To finish it off, I die cut a handful of blue flowers and randomly layered them over some of the white flowers. I also added rhinestones to the centers of each of the blue flowers for a bit of sparkle!

The dimension the foam tape gives it helps make the flowers pop against the busy background.

I absolutely love these stamps, dies and papers! This latest release from LDRS Creative is amazing!

See you soon!
