project for the kids...

Hey everyone!

A couple of days ago, I put together a kid's craft tutorial for my family's blog.. since I can't link you directly to it (we are keeping it invite only so it is safe for the kiddo photos), I thought I would post it here too.. This is such a fun and inexpensive project to do with the kids, and a great way to keep the kids entertained.
*keep in mind it was written with children learning to read in mind, so if it seems kinda basic, it is. LOL! =)

Sidewalk Paint!

Here is what you need to start:
Corn starch
1/4 cup measuring cup
bowl
spoon(s)
food coloring
toothpicks (optional for colors)
containers for paint (I use dixie cups)
water
paint brushes (the cheap kind!)

lets get started!
Step 1: find your 1/4 cup measuring cup.

Step 2: fill up your measuring cup with corn starch and dump it in your bowl.

Step 3: take that same measuring cup and fill it up with cold water.

Step 4: pour the water into your bowl with the corn starch.

Step 5: stir. This will be a little hard at first and you will have lots of clumps.

Keep stirring until it looks and feels like you are stirring milk.

Step 6: carefully pour your mix into your smaller containers.

Step 7: add food coloring and stir. I like to use toothpicks for this just so I don't have to wash as many spoons later, but for young children, spoon or straws are a safer option.

Make as many colors as you want! Try mixing food coloring together for new colors!

Step 7: take your paints and paint brushes outside and make art!  Don't forget to bring out an extra cup of water to wash your brush out between colors.

*note for parents: these are similar to sidewalk chalks and rinse off with water, however, because of the food coloring, I don't know how well they come out of clothes.. you may want to keep that in mind when doing this project.*

Hope you enjoy!
