festive tea lights...

Hello my fabulous friends!

Can you believe it's October already?!?!

For those of you who may be a bit behind (like me) getting fall decor out, here's a super quick idea to get you started!

Supplies:

Tea Candle
Tissue paper
La-La Land Crafts Leaves Confetti die
Washi tape- WRMK Wahsi Sheets
Copic Markers- E07, R27, E99, E59
Wax Paper

Tools:
Copic Airbrush
Heat Gun
Die Cut Machine

Using the Copic Airbrush, color the tissue paper.
I used a 3 different colors for some variation instead of one flat color.

If you want speckles, use the brush nib of your marker instead of the chisel nib in the airbrush, and hold the airbrush 6-10 inches away... (test on a scrap paper first.. each marker is different, and even the same marker will vary between uses.. the more ink in the marker, the better the airbrush works.)

Place a piece of regular cardstock under the tissue paper, and die cut the Maple Leaf Confetti.

If you want to draw in stems, do it now.

Carefully peel the tissue paper away from the cardstock.

Deconstruct your tea light.. If you are using the cheap tea light candles, this is usually really simple... The candle usually falls out of the metal tin, and the wick slides out of the candle.

Arrange your leaves on your candle. Be sure to leave the hole in the center open.

Now grab your wax paper from your kitchen...

Place a piece of wax paper over your candle, and gently heat with a heat gun until surface becomes shiny and the leaves "melt" into the wax.  Carefully pull off the wax paper while the wax is still warm.

I like to quickly heat it with a heat gun again to smooth out any marks the wax paper may have left behind when removing  it. The leaves should be fully enclosed in wax.

If you want to get extra festive, cover the tin with some washi tape!

Now, you simply put your wick back in, and the candle back in the tin, and you have a festive candle!

I've decorated many candles, but I've never burned one that I've added tissue paper to... I wasn't sure if it was safe.. so I did some experimenting... I made sure my candle was in a candle holder, and let my candle burn in a well ventilated are until it burned out... and I watched it to see what would happen....

The leaves never burned... In fact,  once the whole candle was liquid, the leaves sunk to the bottom...
I didn't notice any weird smells while burning... but the alcohol ink did tint the wax somewhat..

All that being said, always use caution when you burn any candle...

ALWAYS keep a close eye on candles.

Keep lit candles away from anything that might catch fire.

and ALWAYS watch your burning candles!!!

See you soon!
